Morphology:

Flowers small pink to deep purple to ½" diameter usually in loose terminal spikes – some examples have white flowers
Fruit small nutlet – inconspicuous
 
Propagation:
semi-hardwood cuttings in late spring or summer
 
Usage:
excellent small scale groundcover or low hedge or facer plant which blends well with other perennials, in cottage gardens or in Mediterranean landscapes – very drought tolerant once established
 
Landscape Care:
Watering easy to grow where drainage is good, where it tolerates regular watering; best if kept on the dry side if drainage is not excellent
Fertilizing slow release feeding at planting time
Pruning shear once or twice yearly to keep neat and compact
Pests/Diseases root rot where drainage is poor
Special Conditions/Other works well mixed with California natives
